K1 Concept Home, Project Progress – May 2010

Work has commenced on the award winning design of the K1 concept home at Lakeside Park, Kununurra.

The K1 provides a new alternative in good quality architecturally designed modular housing for people in the regions. The unusual plan form, provides large areas of indoor and outdoor living all under the same roof. This unusual plan capitalises on the South East and North West cooling breezes whilst shielding from the strong desert North Eastern breezes. The modular construction system also provides flexibility in the design of the spaces within the home without compromising on cost or livability.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home meets sustainability and design criteria such as a minimum six-star energy efficiency rating, minimal mechanical heating and cooling, and capitalises on local cooling breezes and natural ventilation through a mechanical window flap system which is also a unique design aspect.
